OUR ANIMALS NEED YOUR HELP.

The most exciting part of volunteering with us is that you will be up close and personal with the wild animals of the rainforest. From Howler monkeys to Tapir and wild birds we help rehabilitate a broad range of wildlife. You will help feed and care for our animals, improving their wellbeing and preparing them for a return to life in the wild.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN PROJECT.

During your volunteering journey you can choose a project that you are passionate about. That could be improving an enclosure or lifestyle element for the animals, painting a building or taking photos or working with our education outreach.

EDUCATION OUTREACH.

As a volunteer you will be able to join our education outreach program, teaching locals and people from all over the world about the importance of wildlife conservation and the interesting facts about our animals.

FEEL ONE WITH NATURE.

At Amazon Shelter you will get to live at one with nature. From the dawn chorus to the Tambopata river flowing beside the centre you will get the true rainforest experience.

EXPLORE

You can explore the local area and get to really immerse yourself into the culture from the local food markets to the local people. Sunset river swims and Kayaking are just some of the options.

A day in the life of Amazon Shelter:

7.30am - Breakfast for volunteers

8.00am - Preparation of diets for the animals

8.30-9.30am - Feeding the animals

10am - Gathering wild leaves for Howler Monkeys

11 - 1pm - Specific projects - maintenance and repair

1pm - Volunteer lunchtime

2pm - Afternoon diets and feeding of animals

4pm - cleaning enclosures and washing up

5pm - preparation for evening - blankets and milk

6pm - Volunteer rest time

7pm - Volunteer dinner

8pm - Volunteer evening activities or rest

As well as help with feeding, medicines and cleaning you can also choose your own project to complete during your time with us, whether that is helping to enrich enclosures, focus on feeding young animals or helping with media like photography. We even have a food garden you could help develop. And when we have releases a few volunteers are needed to help scout locations, assist with releasing and monitor them post release.
